Super Bowl Odds: 2010 Houston Texans Predictions

Author: Bishop Whitmore

Ever since head coach Gary Kubiak took over the Houston Texans they have been touted as the next big playoff thing to emerge in the NFL and 2009 was sold as the year that they would finally emerge with their first ever playoff berth. Houston did finish with a franchise best 9-7 NFL betting record but it was not good enough to garner a post season bid as the Texans were done in by a 5-7 start in NFL predictions that had turned off their fans and many gamblers along the way. Kubiak did earn an extension through 2012 for the season ending bail out. The Texans opened at online sportsbooks as a 40-1 longshot to win in Super Bowl odds with an over/under win total of 8 OVER (-140).

Houston got the money in NFL betting odds for just 7 games last year and went over the total just 5 times. Houston is again talking playoffs and there is reason for hope starting with an offense that ranked 4th overall in the NFL and was the top ranked passing unit in the league. Quarterback Matt Schaub and wideout Andre Johnson became a dangerous combination last year looking forward to 2011 Super Bowl odds. Schaub completed nearly 68 percent of his passes for 4,770 yards and 29 touchdowns although there were 15 costly picks as well. Johnson had 1,569 yards receiving and 9 TD's.

The Houston ground game needs help as it ranked 30th in NFL betting last year. Injuries on the line hurt as did a drop-off in production from Steve Slaton. Improvement is highly possible, which would take some heat off the passing game and defense. The defense ranked a respectable 13th in the NFL under first year coordinator Frank Bush and should continue to improve. If Houston can improve on their 1-5 division record they have the talent to finally make the playoffs and perhaps steal the Dallas Cowboys thunder by making the Super Bowl in February at Cowboys Stadium.
